The National Park of Peace
The Past observes the Future
The National Park of Peace of Sant’Anna di Stazzema extends over the hilly area around the village, concentrating on the sacred area which, from the square in front of the church and the Historical Museum of Resistance, across Via Crucis and the surrounding forest reaches the Col di Cava with the Charnel House Monument.
The Park was founded under the Law 381 of 2000 with the intention to keep alive the historical memory of the tragical events of the 1944 summer and to educate the new generations to the respect of peace’s values, justice, cooperation and consideration between peoples and individuals. It represents an ideal union between environment, history and memory combining unpolluted nature, small villages scattered over the hillside and places of the slaughter.
